Volkswagen Warning Lights

Volkswagen warning lights are your vehicle’s way of telling you something isn't right. The team at United Tire and Service knows how important your VW is to you and that's why our team is highly trained to diagnose and repair any issues that may arise. Whether your vehicle is brand new or has been reliable for years, Volkswagen warning lights are a clear indication that something in your vehicle needs attention.

Dashboard Light Colors

Volkswagen dashboard lights illuminate in three colors: green, yellow, and red. Green lights are good! These are your running lights, turn signals, and shift lock indicators. These lights don’t need the attention of a service provider, they are merely informational. Yellow indicator lights are a sign of a possible issue and you should use caution while driving. Yellow lights need attention, but they are not life-threatening. Red indicator lights are a clear sign that you should stop driving as soon as safely possible. Something serious has happened! Red indicator lights need immediate attention from a service provider, and more often than not your Volkswagen may need to be towed to the nearest United Tire and Service shop.

Common Dashboard Warning Lights

ABS light volkswagenABS: Anti-lock Brake System (yellow)

This indicates that your anti-lock braking system is malfunctioning. Drive cautiously, but do not ignore this problem for very long.

Airbag (yellow)airbag light volkswagen

Airbags are your second line of defense (after your brakes) at protecting you in the event of an accident. If this turns on it means your airbag system is not functioning properly or that they have been deactivated.

brake pad light volkswagenBrake Pad Wear (yellow)

When brake pads are worn low, it can inhibit your vehicle's ability to stop safely. This light lets you know it’s time to make an appointment to have your brake pads replaced before they become a serious driving hazard.

Check Engine (yellow)check engine light volkswagen

If your check engine light comes on, it could indicate various non-life-threatening issues. You should, however, get your Volkswagen services taken care of soon after this lights up. Waiting could result in hazardous and costly situations.

alternator light volkswagenAlternator (red)

Your alternator (or battery error) light indicates that there is a charging system failure with your Volkswagen’s battery. This is an issue that should be dealt with immediately and driving should cease until your vehicle is serviced.

Coolant Level / Coolant Temperature (red)coolant level light volkswagen

Coolant is a fluid that absorbs engine heat while being circulated through your Volkswagen’s radiator. Without this, your engine would overheat and cause serious damage to your vehicle. When you see this light, stop driving as soon as it is safe to do so and call our team!
